Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in a hopeless and disunited state, describing it as merely a shadow of its former self.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Fayose said the current condition of the party gives no indication of a return to power, citing deep internal divisions and leadership failures.
“The PDP is in a hopeless situation and a shadow of itself. The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time,” he said.
The former governor lamented that key figures within the party were abandoning ship, likening the leadership crisis to a sinking vessel.
“There is no hope of PDP coming back for now. Even the captains of our boat are jumping ship. They are moving from one bed to another. So, who is going to hold the party together?” Fayose asked.
He further asserted that the party under the Ambassador Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC)has become directionless, describing its members as “undertakers” who have come to “bury the party.”
According to him, with the NWC’s tenure set to expire in a matter of weeks, their actions—particularly the suspension and counter-suspension of members—reflect a leadership in disarray.
“They are leaving in less than one or two months, yet they are still suspending and counter-suspending members,” Fayose added.
The remarks underscore growing concerns over the PDP’s future amid continued defections and internal strife.
