The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has strongly condemned the recent altercation between Nollywood stars Peggy Ovire and Taye Arimoro, describing the incident as “disturbing and unprofessional.”
In a statement shared on Instagram on Thursday, AGN President Emeka Rollas said the guild “unequivocally condemns the inhumane and degrading treatment meted out to the actor.”
“No actor, under any circumstance, should be subjected to physical assault, intimidation, or any form of abuse in the course of professional engagement,” Rollas stated.
“Such behaviour is not only unacceptable but also highly unethical and contrary to the standards and values of the Nigerian creative industry.”
According to the statement, the guild’s national task force has begun a full investigation into the incident. The AGN also called on the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) to identify the producer involved and ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken in line with industry regulations.
It further urged movie practitioners to embrace “lawful and civil means of conflict resolution rather than resorting to violence or self-help.”
The controversy began after reports emerged that Taye Arimoro’s car tyres were deflated and he was physically assaulted after insisting on leaving the set when his working hours were over. Peggy, however, denied attacking him, claiming that Arimoro was the aggressor and had assaulted two crew members, including her driver.
Hours later, CCTV footage from the movie set surfaced online showing the moment Peggy confronted Arimoro, which reignited public debate over the clash.
Emeka Rollas reaffirmed that the guild remains committed to protecting the welfare, dignity, and safety of its members while upholding the highest standards of professionalism within the film industry.
