Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum demonstrated remarkable composure after being groped by a man while greeting supporters in Mexico City on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the downtown district, where Sheinbaum was mingling with citizens in broad daylight. A video recorded by a bystander shows a man approaching her from behind, placing his hands on her waist, and attempting to kiss her.
In a measured and dignified response, Sheinbaum swiftly turned toward the man, pushed his hand away, and calmly told him “not to worry” before continuing her interaction with other supporters. Her poised reaction has since drawn widespread praise on social media, where the clip has gone viral.
According to reports from the Associated Press, the man appeared to be intoxicated. The absence of visible security personnel in the footage has also sparked debate online regarding the adequacy of the president’s protection during public engagements.
Sheinbaum, who became Mexico’s first female president in 2024, is well known for her approachable and people-centered leadership style—frequently stepping into crowds to take photos and speak directly with citizens.
Her calm handling of the situation has further solidified her reputation as a leader who maintains grace and composure under pressure, even in moments of unexpected confrontation
