President Bola Tinubu has received a fresh list of ambassador-designates, with indications that the final selection may be sent to the Senate for screening soon, according to Punch.
Sources within the presidency confirmed that all security vetting and background checks have been completed, leaving the transmission of the list solely at the President’s discretion.
“The list is ready. It’s now with the President, and it’s up to him,” a senior official said. “All security checks have been concluded, but he hasn’t stated when he intends to forward it to the Senate.”
Another official revealed that the appointments would be announced in phases, beginning with nominees destined for Nigeria’s most strategic partner countries.
“He cannot announce all the ambassadors at once,” the source explained. “The major delay has been funding. It costs a significant amount to settle new ambassadors abroad. So those heading to key partner nations will go first, while others will follow later.”
