Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has declared that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has grown to a level he considers better than football leagues in Europe.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the former Mali coach said Africa only needs to further develop its coaches to match global standards, insisting the quality and intensity of AFCON are already top class.
“We have to create our own identity. For me, this AFCON is better than the league in Europe. This is great,” Chelle said, while calling for greater seriousness in football administration across the continent.
Nigeria could secure top spot in their group and qualify for the knockout stages with a win in their next match.
The Super Eagles will be relying on key players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Akor Adams to deliver the result.
In Nigeria’s opening game against Tanzania, goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman sealed a 2–1 victory, despite Osimhen missing several scoring chances.
