Entertainment icon Cher is preparing for not just a milestone birthday, but a major life event. The 79-year-old superstar is reportedly planning to marry her 39-year-old partner, music executive Alexander Edwards, before she turns 80.
According to PageSix, the couple — whose nearly 40-year age gap has sparked frequent public debate — is ready to take their relationship to the next level. Sources say Cher views her upcoming 80th birthday as the perfect moment to formalise their commitment, adding that both she and Edwards “are fully ready to commit to each other.”
Cher and Edwards began dating in late 2022, and despite the criticism surrounding their age difference, the award-winning singer has consistently defended their relationship. In previous interviews, she dismissed public scrutiny, saying: “They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us… we have a great time.”
She has also described Edwards as having a “younger spirit,” while Edwards himself has said he feels youthful at heart — a dynamic Cher says strengthens their bond.
The singer, known for hits such as Believe and Strong Enough, has never been shy about speaking her truth. Despite having lived much of her life under intense public attention and navigating two high-profile marriages — first to Sonny Bono, then to Gregg Allman — Cher insists that true love transcends age.
“I adore him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s so talented. One of the most talented people I’ve ever met,” she said during an appearance on CBS Mornings.
As she approaches her 80th year, sources say Cher is ready to celebrate it in the most personal way possible — by saying “I do.”
