Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Chris Okafor of Grace Nation – Liberation City, over an alleged breach of promise to marry.

The actress made the development public on Wednesday after sharing a formal demand letter issued by her legal representatives, Synergy Law Partners, on her social media platforms.

Ogala had earlier sparked widespread controversy after accusing the pastor of planning to marry another woman despite what she described as several years of an intimate relationship between them. She also revealed that the situation had pushed her into emotional distress, including suicidal thoughts.

In a series of posts, the actress alleged that the relationship involved deep emotional and sexual ties. She further accused the cleric of sharing her private videos without consent, influencing her to terminate a pregnancy, and contributing to personal tragedies in her life, including the death of her brother.

According to the demand letter dated and addressed to Pastor Chris Okafor, the actress claims the relationship began in 2017 during a difficult period in her marriage, when the cleric allegedly offered pastoral care alongside a clear promise of marriage.

Her lawyers stated that the alleged promise was reinforced through introductions to the pastor’s family, including his children, as well as joint appearances at family functions, which they argue created a legitimate expectation of marriage.

Ogala further claimed she relied on the alleged promise to her detriment by leaving her troubled marriage and entrusting the pastor with ₦45 million in a single transaction.

The legal notice described the pastor’s public announcement of his engagement to another woman as a clear breach of the alleged agreement, which, according to the actress, resulted in severe emotional, psychological, and reputational damage.

Meanwhile, photos circulating online suggest that Pastor Chris Okafor has reportedly gone ahead to marry his fiancée in a semi-private ceremony, despite the ongoing controversy and legal action.

The lawsuit also alleges that Ogala has been subjected to intense online harassment, victim-shaming, and the malicious circulation of her nude photographs without consent.

Her lawyers further cited profound health implications arising from the situation, including panic attacks and suicidal thoughts.

Ogala is demanding ₦1 billion in aggravated and general damages and has given the cleric 21 days to comply, failing which the matter will be taken to court.
