you never met bail conditions’ — EFCC slams Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, that his bail was revoked due to his attendance at a political event in Kebbi State.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency clarified that Malami’s situation has no connection to politics, media appearances or political activities. Instead, the EFCC said his continued detention is solely a result of his failure to fulfil the conditions attached to the provisional administrative bail earlier granted to him.

The Commission described the allegations as misleading narratives circulating in the public domain, stressing that they do not reflect the true circumstances surrounding the matter.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, though not disposed to joining issues with respect to its operations in the media, is compelled to respond to the patently false claims of a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, about a purported revocation of his bail over attendance at a political gathering in Kebbi,” Oyewale stated.

He explained that administrative bail is not a right but a discretionary and temporary measure extended to suspects while investigations are ongoing and before any possible court arraignment.

According to the EFCC, Malami was granted provisional administrative bail after a brief interrogation on 28 November 2025, subject to five specific conditions, all of which remain unmet, making his continued detention procedural rather than political.
