‘Family Matters’ Star Darius McCrary Released After No-Contest Plea to Felony Charges

‘Family Matters’ Star Darius McCrary Jailed in San Diego Over Out-of-State Felony Warrant

Family Matters actor Darius McCrary has been released from prison two months after his arrest near the U.S.–Mexico border.

The 49-year-old actor entered a no-contest plea to multiple felony charges and was released on Monday, December 8, according to jail records from Oakland County, Michigan.

Darius McCrary was arrested on October 5 by U.S. Border Patrol on an out-of-state felony warrant, leading prosecutors to argue that he was a flight risk—a position a judge upheld, according to ABC10 News. The warrant stemmed from his failure to appear in court over alleged unpaid child support. His public defender said he had been in Tijuana working with a charity that builds houses.

His attorney, Paulette Loftin, confirmed his release to TMZ, stressing that McCrary’s “fight for justice and truth has been painted as an attempt to shirk his responsibilities to his child.”

“The resolution reached today makes it clear that family does matter and that it always has,” Loftin said. “This resolution allows Mr. McCrary to correct the misleading narrative and put this matter behind him.”

Ann Barlow, a representative for the actor, also confirmed that Darius McCrary pleaded no contest to five felony charges. He is expected to return to court for sentencing in February 2026.

McCrary is widely known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the iconic ’90s sitcom Family Matters, which aired from 1989 to 1998.
