Meghan Markle has finally made contact with her estranged father, Thomas Markle, following his recent hospitalization and leg amputation.
A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex confirmed to Page Six on Wednesday, December 10, that Meghan managed to get a letter to her father after he claimed in an interview with the Daily Mail that he had not heard from her.
“Given that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father’s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the Duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days,” Meghan’s representative said in a strongly worded statement.
The spokesperson added that, “With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands.”
The update comes after insiders revealed that Meghan Markle 44, had been trying unsuccessfully to reach the 81-year-old retired lighting director after his procedure at a hospital in the Philippines. Sources previously told The Times UK that she had been unable to make contact but expected communication to take place soon.
Page Six also confirmed that Meghan Markle had been calling various hospitals in an attempt to locate her father. On December 5, her representative stated, “I can confirm she has reached out to her father.”
Despite these reports, Meghan’s estranged sister, Samantha Markle, took to X to claim that no attempt had been made to contact their father. Thomas Markle himself also expressed confusion, telling the Daily Mail that he has never changed his phone number and insisting Meghan Markle could reach him easily. He reiterated his wish to reconcile, saying he does not want to “die estranged.”
“I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her,” he told the outlet. “I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband, too.”
Sources reported that Meghan had lost her father’s phone number and attempted to reach him via email without success.
Last week, Thomas Markle Jr. confirmed that his father had his left leg amputated below the knee after a sudden blood clot caused severe discoloration. “My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly,” he told the Daily Mail.
