Governor Ademola Adeleke Resigns From PDP, Cites Prolonged Leadership Crisis

Why Osun election tribunal nullified Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his long-standing affiliation with the party after months of mounting internal turmoil.

Adeleke confirmed that he submitted his resignation on November 4, 2025, at Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government. He said persistent conflict within the party’s national leadership made it increasingly difficult for him to remain.

According to the governor, the decision was not an easy one, as he had served under the PDP for years — first as a senator and later as the governor of Osun State. He expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his political journey within the party.

His exit follows recent reports suggesting that Adeleke might not vie for the PDP governorship ticket in 2026 if the crisis at the national level continued unresolved. Party stakeholders in Osun had hoped ongoing disputes would be settled before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released its election timetable, thereby encouraging him to remain under the PDP platform.

Adeleke’s departure marks a major shift in Osun’s political landscape, with attention now turning to his next political move ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
