President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, following the resignation of former minister Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who stepped down citing health concerns.
The nomination was announced in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, titled “President Tinubu Nominates General Christopher Musa as the New Minister of Defence.”
According to Onanuga, the president’s nomination was conveyed in an official letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“General Musa, 58, on December 25, is a distinguished soldier who served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025. He won the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012,” the statement noted.
In the letter to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed strong confidence in Musa’s capacity to lead the Ministry of Defence, describing him as a seasoned military officer capable of strengthening Nigeria’s defence systems amid ongoing security challenges across the country.
General Musa’s nomination is now awaiting Senate confirmation.
