Fatima Buhari, daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has alleged that her father’s signature was forged on official documents while he was in office.
The claims are contained in From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, a biography written by Charles Omole, where Fatima, a forensic auditor, recounted reviewing documents bearing what she described as fake signatures attributed to her father.
According to the book, Fatima said she personally showed Buhari examples of the alleged forged signatures, adding that other individuals had also raised similar concerns about the authenticity of documents signed in his name.
She reportedly noted that the issue of forgery was not exclusive to the Buhari administration, explaining that similar problems had occurred under previous governments.
The author further quoted Fatima as saying there were instances where her father’s speeches and official directives were altered after he had already given approval.
An excerpt from the book recounts an incident during a trip to the United States, where Buhari noticed that the speech he was reading at a conference was different from the one he had approved. According to the account, he abandoned the altered script and addressed the audience in his own words.
The book describes this as part of a broader pattern in which directives were diluted, statements rephrased, and intentions subtly changed as documents passed through bureaucratic channels, sometimes due to administrative lapses and, at other times, the actions of a small group within the system.
The biography also revealed that Buhari believed his official residence at the State House was wiretapped, leading him to sometimes communicate silently with his daughter by writing notes instead of speaking aloud.
According to the author, some security chiefs who served under Buhari later confirmed that unusual objects were discovered in the president’s office and living quarters during routine security checks.
