Nollywood actress Mojisola Adebanjo has opened up about the principles she refuses to compromise in her career, stressing that integrity and peace of mind matter more to her than fame or industry approval.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Adebanjo said she has consciously chosen to remain true to her values despite pressures to conform to unhealthy norms within the film industry.
“I have learnt that staying true to my values is non-negotiable. For me, that means refusing to engage in industry ‘games,’ gossip, or manipulation to fit in. I’ve seen how toxic these dynamics can be, and I prioritise peace and self-respect over forced relationships or quick fame,” she said.
The actress recalled an early experience in her career when she was encouraged to create unnecessary drama as a strategy to advance professionally, a move she firmly rejected.
“There was a situation early in my career where I was pressured to participate in unnecessary drama to get ahead. I chose not to engage, and looking back, I would make the same choice again. My peace and integrity are priceless,” she added.
Sharing her views on relationships, Adebanjo said separation becomes necessary when core values, safety, and emotional wellbeing are threatened.
“I have seen relationships suffer when serious issues arise, and it’s hard to watch. Couples should consider separating when there is abuse—whether physical, emotional, or sexual. Persistent toxic patterns like control, manipulation, or constant negativity are also major red flags,” she explained.
Regarding financial stability, the actress advised fellow actors to maintain additional sources of income because the entertainment industry is unpredictable.
“For actors, having a side hustle isn’t just beneficial; it’s a necessity. Acting income can be inconsistent, and that’s the reality. Side hustles provide a financial cushion to cover essentials like rent and other expenses,” she said.
Adebanjo’s remarks have resonated with many in the industry, highlighting the importance of self-worth, financial independence, and ethical decision-making in Nollywood.
