New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing serious legal trouble off the field as his first season with the franchise reaches a critical stage.
According to court records, Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation, as well as misdemeanor assault, in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on December 2. The charges were formally filed on December 29 at the Dedham District Court in Massachusetts.
During a remote court appearance, Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, requested that the police report related to the case be impounded, arguing that the details should remain sealed while legal proceedings are ongoing.
The New England Patriots responded swiftly, releasing a statement expressing support for the player while acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations.
“Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary,” the statement read.
The development comes just weeks after Diggs and his girlfriend, rapper Cardi B, welcomed their son in November, adding personal weight to the unfolding situation.
As of the time of filing this report, Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, 2026, although the presiding judge noted that the date could be moved to March.
The NFL has yet to issue a public response regarding the matter.
