Former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani has addressed speculation about his exclusion from President Bola Tinubu’s newly released ambassadorial nominees, stating that he was never considered for the role and that he believes he is “too young” for such an appointment.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Sani dismissed earlier reports linking him to a potential ambassadorial slot.
“My name has never been on the list for an ambassadorial position. I only saw it in the media months ago,” he said.
Sani, who once served as vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, explained that ambassadorial appointments follow a strict, formal procedure. According to him, candidates typically receive an official call, submit their CVs, and undergo security checks and vetting.
“None of these processes involved me. At no point was I contacted or screened. So my name was never part of the list,” he clarified.
The outspoken former lawmaker added that he remains deeply invested in the future of Kaduna State rather than pursuing diplomatic roles abroad.
“I think I’m too young to be an ambassador. I still have a lot to deliver to my people in Kaduna State,” he said.
His comments come shortly after President Tinubu forwarded a fresh batch of career and non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation — a list that did not feature Sani’s name.
