Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has claimed that international law is designed to favour powerful nations while leaving weak and poor countries vulnerable.
In a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, Sani argued that international law only applies to countries without nuclear weapons, alleging that global superpowers and their allies are effectively insulated from accountability.
According to him, powerful nations can invade, occupy, and dispossess other countries, threaten judges of international courts, and violate the sovereignty of weaker states without facing consequences.
Shehu Sani’s remarks come amid reports of a United States military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
He wrote, “International law is made for poor or weak countries; it’s law for those countries without nuclear weapons. Superpowers and their cronies are insulated from that international law.”
