Snoop Dogg has been announced as the headline performer for the halftime show during Netflix’s NFL Christmas Gameday broadcast.
The legendary rapper will take the stage during the Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings game, which will be streamed live on Netflix from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Christmas Day.
According to a press release, the Drop It Like It’s Hot hitmaker, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, is set to deliver a performance filled with his biggest songs, holiday cheer, and a lineup of special guest appearances for viewers around the world.
Reacting to the announcement, Snoop Dogg expressed excitement about the collaboration between the NFL and Netflix.
“NFL, Netflix, and your Uncle Snoop on Christmas Day?” he said. “We’re servin’ up music, love and good vibes for the whole world to enjoy. That’s the kind of holiday magic Santa can’t fit in a bag.”
In a festive promotional video narrated by funk legend George Clinton, Snoop Dogg teased the upcoming show while holding a snow globe featuring a miniature stadium and the Netflix logo.
“We’re about to light up Christmas in a real way. Come on in,” he said.
The rapper has named his performance Snoop’s Holiday Halftime Party and follows Beyoncé, who headlined Netflix’s first NFL Christmas Day halftime show last year.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, described the announcement as a major moment for the platform’s holiday programming.
“Christmas Gameday just got a whole lot cooler,” Bajaria said. “We’re uniting two global cultural juggernauts, the NFL and the one and only Snoop Dogg, who will drop the hottest halftime show. As a West Coast girl and huge fan myself, I can confidently say this is the ultimate gift we could give our members. We’re ready to drop it like it’s hot with this holiday celebration!”
The Christmas Day broadcast is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm ET on December 25.
