President of Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has debunked claims circulating on social media that former United States President, Donald Trump, is displeased with the establishment of Africa’s largest refinery.
The speculation followed Trump’s recent comments threatening action against terrorists attacking Christians in Nigeria, with some online narratives falsely linking the remarks to the $20 billion Dangote Refinery.
Speaking to journalists, Dangote described the claims as unfounded, noting that the United States remains one of the refinery’s major crude oil suppliers.
“The US has been one of our major suppliers of crude, which is why when someone says Trump is not happy with our refinery, it’s not true,” he said.
He added that the business relationship between the refinery and the US contradicts such claims, stressing that the refinery purchases significant volumes of crude from America annually.
“Trump is more than happy with our refinery, because on average for a year, we do not buy more than 100 million barrels from the US,” he stated.
Dangote also reiterated that the refinery has given Nigerians the option of buying high-quality, locally refined petrol at cheaper prices, as against blended imported fuel sold at higher rates.
According to him, fuel importers may continue to incur losses, while Nigerians benefit from more affordable petrol made available through local refining.
