Werder Bremen have addressed growing speculation surrounding the future of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface at the club.
The Bundesliga side’s Sporting Director, Clemens Fritz, has suggested that an early termination of Boniface’s loan move from Bayer Leverkusen remains a possibility. The Nigerian forward joined Bremen on loan after a proposed transfer to Italian giants AC Milan failed to materialise.
Boniface has endured a difficult spell since arriving at Werder Bremen, struggling to make a significant impact on the pitch. His situation has been further complicated by injury, limiting his involvement with the team.
Speaking after Bremen’s match against Augsburg, Fritz provided an update on the striker’s status and hinted at potential decisions ahead. According to Deichstube, he said, “Victor is injured at the moment and we are in contact with the Leverkusen doctors. We want to let it calm down a bit for now.
“He’ll switch off for a few days, but then we’ll have to see how it develops.
“After that, however, the topic of ‘sporting future’ could well be on the table.”
So far this season, Boniface has managed just two assists and is yet to find the back of the net for Werder Bremen, raising questions about his long-term stay at the club.
