CAF President Patrice Motsepe has disclosed that Nigerian music star and Grammy Award winner, Burna Boy, encountered an unexpected challenge on his arrival in Morocco ahead of his performance at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert in Rabat.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Motsepe revealed that the singer was briefly held at the airport by customs officials over an issue related to his jewellery. According to the CAF president, the situation arose after officers took notice of Burna Boy’s heavy gold accessories.
Motsepe explained that the matter was quickly resolved after he stepped in to address the situation. Recounting the incident, he said, “Recently was called that I need interven because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened and it was resolved.”
Despite the delay, Burna Boy went on to headline the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16, delivering a memorable performance for fans.
The concert also featured performances from Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy, alongside Moroccan stars Stormy and Jaylann, adding to the vibrant celebration surrounding the tournament.
