Former Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, appeared unfazed as he was spotted in public for the first time since his dismissal from the club.
Amorim was seen stepping out of his Cheshire mansion alongside his wife, Maria Joao Diogo, both wearing broad smiles just hours after he was sacked with immediate effect at Carrington on Monday morning.
According to Daily Mail Sport, the decision to part ways with the 40-year-old coach had already been taken by United’s hierarchy two days before Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road. His dismissal followed a reported public outburst directed at club executives after the Leeds game.
The former manager was entitled to £12 million in compensation if he was relieved of his duties before November 1, although details of his severance package remain unclear.
Sources revealed that Amorim left the club’s training ground on Monday morning laughing and joking with members of his departing coaching staff.
The final decision to sack him came after a meeting with United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, held following last Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against bottom-placed Wolves. During that match, Amorim reverted to his preferred system of three central defenders.
Club insiders said Amorim was informed that the squad, strengthened with £250 million worth of summer signings, was good enough to be trusted and capable of playing a more attacking style of football.
Former United midfielder and current Under-18s coach, Darren Fletcher, has been appointed caretaker manager ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Burnley. Senior players were also briefed on the decision shortly after Amorim was informed.
