Manchester United have issued a statement confirming that club captain Bruno Fernandes’ X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked following the team’s FA Cup third-round defeat to Brighton.
The breach occurred late on Sunday night, shortly after 11pm, when a series of unusual and unrelated posts appeared on the midfielder’s account. One of the posts bizarrely referenced National League North side Macclesfield FC, while another appeared to criticise the club’s ownership with a call to remove INEOS.
The compromised account also tagged adult film star Bonnie Blue, the England cricket team, YouTuber KSI and world darts champion Luke Littler. In one of the final posts, an image of Manchester United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool in 2023 was shared.
In response, Manchester United moved quickly to alert supporters, urging them not to interact with the posts or any direct messages from the account.
“Bruno Fernandes’ X account has been hacked. Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages,” the club said in a statement.
