CAF Bans Samuel Eto’o Over AFCON Quarter-Final Misconduct

The CAF Disciplinary Board has charged the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, with misconduct following the AFCON quarter-final clash between Morocco and Cameroon in Rabat last weekend.

CAF disclosed the decision in a statement published on its official website in the early hours of Thursday. According to the statement, the Board found Eto’o guilty of violating the principles of sportsmanship as outlined in Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes.

The former Barcelona and Chelsea striker was also found culpable under Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code for misconduct during the match.

As a result, the Board handed Eto’o a stadium ban covering the next four official CAF matches played in the context of the Africa Cup of Nations. In addition, he was fined $20,000.

The sanction follows Cameroon’s elimination from the tournament after a 2–0 defeat to Morocco in the quarter-final stage.
