Barcelona midfielder Pedri González is expected to be sidelined for around a month after sustaining a hamstring injury, the Spanish champions confirmed on Thursday.
The 23-year-old picked up the injury during the second half of Barcelona’s 4–2 away victory over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
In an official statement, the club said:
“Tests taken this morning have confirmed that first team player Pedri has a muscular injury in his right hamstring. The recovery time will be one month.”
As a result, Pedri will miss Barcelona’s final league-phase Champions League fixture against FC Copenhagen next week. He is also set to be unavailable for upcoming La Liga matches against Real Oviedo, Elche, Girona, and Mallorca.
Should Barcelona overcome Albacete in the Copa del Rey on February 3, Pedri would also miss the first leg of the semi-finals scheduled for the following week.
The injury represents another setback for the Spain international, who has struggled with fitness issues in recent seasons, and is a blow to Barcelona as they enter a crucial run of fixtures across domestic and European competitions.
