Popular Nigerian singer Skales has dismissed rumours that fellow artiste Burna Boy once gifted him ₦600,000 during a period of financial difficulty.
According to Skales, the claim was fabricated by a Burna Boy fan on X (formerly Twitter) and has no basis in fact.
The singer made this known while speaking on the negative impact of social media and fake news on the music industry during a recent interview on the Adesope Live show.
Skales explained that he had once reached out directly to the fan responsible for spreading the story, identified simply as “Benny,” to question the persistent hostility directed at him.
“He created a fake news that there was a time that I was broke and Burna Boy helped me with ₦600,000. That never happened,” Skales said.
He used the opportunity to caution his colleagues against allowing overzealous fans to sow discord among artistes, advising musicians to communicate directly with one another to clarify issues rather than relying on social media narratives.
