Nigeria national team head coach Éric Chelle has drawn mixed reactions on social media following remarks he made during a media interaction at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
A video clip shared on X on Sunday night by sports journalist @Iam_agt captured Chelle speaking candidly about the pressures he faces during the tournament, particularly from constant media engagements.
In the clip, the Super Eagles coach expressed frustration over the lack of personal time amid the competition.
“Everybody wants to kill me. They don’t want me to rest a little,” Chelle said.
He added: “They don’t want me to go back to the hotel to eat, to sleep, to analyse my game.”
The comments quickly sparked debate among football fans online, with some sympathising with the coach over the intense demands of international tournaments. In contrast, others felt his remarks were unnecessary or poorly worded.
Chelle’s comments come as Nigeria continues its Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a positive note.
The Super Eagles finished the group stage unbeaten and are set to face the knockout phase as they push for continental glory.
The Nigerian Football Federation has not issued an official response to the comments, as discussions about the clip continue to trend on social media.
