Nigerian superstar Davido has lost out in the Best African Music Performance category at the GRAMMY Awards 2026, with South African singer Tyla emerging victorious.
Tyla clinched the award with her hit single Push 2 Start, beating a strong lineup of African heavyweights.
The nominees included Nigeria’s Burna Boy for Love, Ayra Starr and Wizkid for Gimme Dat, as well as Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay. Also nominated were Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin for Hope & Love.
Despite Davido missing out, the category once again highlighted Nigeria’s dominance on the global African music scene, with three Nigerian acts making the final shortlist.
Introduced to spotlight African music on the world stage, the Best African Music Performance category continues to showcase the continent’s growing influence at the GRAMMYs, with Tyla’s win marking another major moment for South African pop and Afro-influenced sound worldwide.
