Activist Deji Adeyanju has criticised former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of hypocrisy after an alleged attempt by security operatives to arrest him at Abuja International Airport.
The development occurred after El-Rufai returned from Cairo, Egypt. According to his media team, security agents approached him upon arrival and sought to take him into custody.
El-Rufai declined, insisting that any official action must be backed by a formal letter of invitation or legal process.
Reacting on social media, El-Rufai condemned what he described as an illegal move, writing:
“My lawyers have issued a statement that condemns the illegal attempt to arrest me today at the Abuja airport upon my arrival from Cairo. Our country must outgrow executive overreach and deliberate disregard for the rule of law.”
However, Adeyanju pushed back strongly on that position. Posting on X, he wrote:
“El-Rufai who oppressed everyone yesterday is crying and begging for rule of law. Karma, thank you for this.”
The exchange has sparked renewed debate online, with users divided over whether El-Rufai is being unfairly targeted or simply experiencing the consequences of political power shifts.
El-Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 and has recently been involved in public disagreements with figures within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding a political dimension to the unfolding situation.
