Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has denied any involvement in a donation of a car and a shop to Kaduna-based TikToker Rahama Saidu.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the governor said the donation seen in a viral social media video was made privately by an individual identified as Sanin Jaman, who reportedly acted in appreciation of Saidu’s support for the Ahmed Aliyu administration.
The government stressed that the gesture had no link to the Sokoto State Government.
“I want to make it categorically clear that the said donation has nothing to do with Governor Ahmed Aliyu. It was purely personal between the two of them – the giver and the beneficiary,” the statement read.
Governor Aliyu also cautioned individuals against carrying out donations in his name or on behalf of the state government without prior consultation, noting that such actions could mislead the public.
He added that there are more structured and impactful channels through which assistance can be provided to residents, pointing to the administration’s nine-point SMART agenda, which prioritises insecurity, moral upbringing, support for vulnerable groups, youth empowerment, environmental sanitation, education, and healthcare delivery.
The governor further highlighted the continued needs of displaced persons affected by banditry and other vulnerable residents across the state, urging individuals and corporate organisations to complement government interventions.
“We have many displaced persons, especially in areas affected by banditry and even within the metropolis, who are in dire need of assistance. Despite the various interventions already provided by the state government, there is still room for individuals and corporate bodies to support these efforts,” he said.
