The co-founder of online fashion retailer ASOS, Quentin Griffiths, has died following a fall from a condominium balcony in Pattaya, Thailand. He was 58.
Griffiths, a London-born retail entrepreneur, reportedly fell from the 17th floor of his apartment building. Emergency services discovered his body on the ground below the balcony.
Authorities said there were no signs of disturbance inside the apartment but noted that foul play has not been ruled out pending further forensic examinations. His exact cause of death is expected to be determined after a full post-mortem, which could take several months.
The incident comes amid reports of an ongoing dispute with his Thai ex-wife, who allegedly accused him of financial misconduct involving a joint business venture. Griffiths had previously denied the allegations and was released after questioning. Investigations into the matter were said to be ongoing at the time of his death.
A source close to the family described the circumstances as unclear, noting that the phrase “suspicious circumstances” had been used.
Griffiths co-founded ASOS in 2000 alongside Nick Robertson and Andrew Regan, remaining with the company until 2005. The brand grew into a multi-billion-pound global retailer, attracting high-profile customers including Catherine, Princess of Wales and Michelle Obama.
A former advertising executive, Griffiths later made significant earnings from share sales and pursued legal action against BDO, alleging he had received incorrect tax advice related to share disposals involving ASOS and Achica, another business he co-founded.
The father of three relocated to Thailand around 2007. After divorcing his first wife, he married a Thai national, with whom he had two children. The couple later separated.
