Wisdom Should Be Based on Competence, Not Age – ID Cabasa

Nigerian music executive Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has challenged the long-held belief that wisdom automatically comes with age.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone, the 50-year-old producer argued that the assumption linking aging with wisdom is fundamentally flawed.

According to ID Cabasa, many individuals are perceived as wise simply because of their years of experience, even though some of those experiences may no longer be relevant in today’s rapidly evolving world.

“The assumption that the older you get, the wiser you are is an assumption that has never been true. I am not saying older people are not smart or wise,” he said.

ID Cabasa explained that wisdom should be measured more by competence and continuous growth rather than by age alone.

“Most times, people see themselves as wiser because they are more experienced, not competent. But most of the experiences that you are bringing, a lot of them are obsolete,” he added.

ID Cabasa further noted that personal development plays a key role in gaining wisdom. According to him, growing older does not automatically translate into becoming wiser if an individual is not actively evolving.

He pointed out the generational shift in technological knowledge, saying today’s younger generation was born into the digital age, unlike older generations who had to learn technology later in life.

“We need to be careful not to demand for respect only on the basis of age,” he concluded.
