Adebayo Adelabu has stepped down from his role as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, citing his decision to contest for the governorship of Oyo State.
In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Adelabu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the federal cabinet.
“I write with profound gratitude to Your Excellency to formally tender my resignation from my position as the Honorable Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.
He went on to thank the president for the trust placed in him, noting that it had been a privilege to contribute to efforts to improve Nigeria’s power sector under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adelabu explained that his resignation was necessary to allow him to commit to his political ambition fully.
“My decision to resign is to enable me to fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavor,” the letter added.
His exit from the cabinet signals a transition from federal executive responsibilities to state-level political engagement as preparations for the next electoral cycle begin to take shape.
