Nigerian chef and content creator Tolani Tayo-Osikoya, popularly known as Chef T of Diary of a Kitchen Lover, has revealed that she has converted from Christianity to Islam.
She made the announcement in a video shared on her Instagram page while preparing Iftar for her family during Ramadan.
In the video, Chef T explained that she initially hesitated to speak publicly about her decision due to the often sensitive nature of religious conversations on social media.
However, after deep reflection, she decided to share her journey.
According to her, her path to Islam began about nine years ago. Though she was born into a Christian family, her perspective gradually changed after marrying a Muslim.
She clarified that her decision to convert was entirely personal and not influenced by pressure from her husband or his family.
Chef T said her husband’s family took time to explain the teachings of Islam to her before their marriage, allowing her to understand the faith at her own pace.
She also revealed that her parents supported her decision, a factor she described as crucial in helping her remain confident in her spiritual journey.
The chef noted that her conversion process involved continuous learning and reflection, adding that she has experienced Islam in different countries over the years.
She said this year’s Ramadan holds special significance for her, as it marks the first time she is reading the Quran with the goal of gaining deeper understanding.
Chef T acknowledged that she is still learning and hopes to grow in practising key aspects of the faith, including the Five Pillars of Islam.
She also expressed her desire to perform the Hajj in the future.
Concluding her message, Chef T encouraged people to focus more on values and how they treat others, rather than differences in belief systems.
