President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terror attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as tragic while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to defeating insurgency.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the President mourned those who lost their lives and extended sympathy to the injured as well as affected families.
“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu said.
He characterised the attacks as desperate actions by terrorist groups currently under pressure from Nigerian security forces.
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he stated.
The President assured Nigerians that military operations would be intensified nationwide to eliminate security threats.
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he added.
Tinubu also commended the Nigerian military for successfully repelling coordinated attacks on their positions in the state, praising their courage and resilience in the face of danger.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” he said.
Describing the incidents as acts of desperation, the President expressed confidence that security forces would restore calm in the region.
“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.”
He further disclosed that additional support had already been approved to strengthen ongoing operations.
“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” Tinubu revealed.
As part of immediate response measures, Tinubu directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations and ensure swift action on the ground. He also instructed emergency agencies to provide adequate care for those injured in the attacks.
“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he said.
Reaffirming his administration’s stance, the President vowed that terrorist groups would not find refuge anywhere in Nigeria.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” Tinubu declared.
