Former minister Femi Fani-Kayode has dismissed reports claiming that his proposed ambassadorial posting was rejected by Germany.
The denial follows circulating reports alleging that German authorities declined his nomination over concerns related to past statements and conduct.
According to the reports, officials reportedly cited “erratic behaviour” and “controversial past statements, particularly his divisive ethnocentric, tribalistic, and religious fundamentalist comments in Nigeria,” which were described as “destabilising.”
However, Fani-Kayode rejected the claims in a post on X, attributing them to political opponents seeking to undermine his appointment.
“Fake news everywhere. These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment, and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it. Whether they like it or not, I will serve my country! Keep crying!” he wrote.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier approved Fani-Kayode as an ambassador-designate, although details regarding his final posting have not yet been disclosed.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from German authorities regarding the alleged rejection.
