Veteran actress Joke Silva has been named head judge for the 2026 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Lagos, marking a major role for one of Nollywood’s most respected figures as the awards prepare for their 12th edition.
Speaking at the event, Joke described the upcoming edition as a significant turning point for the awards.
“It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I assume the role of head judge for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards,” she said.
She noted that the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards has grown beyond just an award ceremony into a major cultural platform that celebrates African storytelling.
According to her, this year’s edition will expand its reach across the continent, with the inclusion of categories representing North and Central Africa.
“This year marks a defining moment in the evolution of the awards,” she said, adding that the expansion reflects the diversity and depth of African film and television.
Joke also emphasised that the judging process will prioritise fairness and professionalism.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that the adjudication process reflects the highest standard of fairness, credibility and professional integrity,” she said.
The 2026 ceremony is scheduled to hold in Lagos in May, with nominees expected to be announced on March 29.
The 12th edition will feature 32 award categories, including new Indigenous Language categories aimed at recognising storytelling from previously underrepresented regions.
