Nigerian singer Chike has opened up about the relationship advice he received from his mother, revealing that she urged him to prioritise value and stability when choosing a life partner.

Speaking during an interview on the Ada’s Room, the 33-year-old said his mother cautioned him against marrying for love alone, stressing the importance of a partner’s financial independence and background.

“I think everybody should look for a partner that has value. Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he said.

He added that his mother also warned against marrying from a financially struggling family or choosing a partner burdened with extensive family responsibilities.

“She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive,” he stated.

Chike explained that he often asks questions when meeting potential partners to understand their background and level of productivity before pursuing a serious relationship.

The singer also advised men to look beyond physical attraction and consider long-term compatibility and stability when entering relationships, particularly those that could lead to marriage.
