“There’s Only One PDP” — Wike Dismisses Talk of Party Factions Ahead of Convention

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that the Peoples Democratic Party is divided into separate camps, insisting the party remains one.

Wike made the remark in Abuja on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT.

According to him, disagreements within a political party are normal and do not indicate the presence of factions.

“It is natural for people to feel dissatisfied, that is not unusual,” he said.

He also addressed ongoing talks about reconciliation within the party, noting that discussions are still in progress even as the PDP prepares for its National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.

Wike made it clear that the convention will go ahead as planned, but that does not mean reconciliation efforts will stop.

“That there is convention doesn’t mean there will be no reconciliation. Convention will go on, everything has its own time,” he said.

He further stressed that he is not aware of any separate group within the party.

“As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP and it will be incorrect to suggest otherwise,” he added.

Looking ahead, Wike pointed out that party primaries are expected to run from April 23 to May 13, in line with the electoral timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He said the timeline leaves little room for delays, suggesting that the party will need to stay focused as it moves into a crucial phase.
