“We Apologise” — Tiwa Savage Foundation Organisers Address Journalist Controversy

Organisers of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation launch have apologised to journalists following the controversy that erupted over their treatment at the event held on Monday at The Delborough, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The apology was disclosed by ThisDay senior correspondent Yinka Olatunbosun, who shared the update on Facebook on Tuesday.

According to Olatunbosun, the organisers reached out to her and other journalists after widespread criticism of how the press was handled during the event.

“The organisers of Tiwa Savage Foundation launch have issued apologies to Ms. Yinka Olatunbosun and her colleagues for the situation that was widely reported yesterday at The Delborough, Victoria Island Lagos,” she wrote.

She explained that the Tiwa Savage team acknowledged the concerns raised by journalists, particularly those who protested against the conditions under which reporters were asked to cover the event.

“The Tiwa Savage team recognises and appreciates the dignity upheld by the handful of journalists who demanded for better handling of press men at events and wishes to host them this evening—of course without the T-shirts,” Olatunbosun added.

The journalist said she accepted the apology and agreed to make the development public.

“I accepted the apologies and had promised to make it public because of mischief makers who enjoy trolling celebrities using situations such as these,” she stated.

Olatunbosun also noted that Tiwa Savage herself was reportedly unhappy about the situation.

“Tiwa Savage is described as a courteous celebrity and she is said to be very saddened by this occurrence. We are proud of her and out of respect for her, we will accept the peace offering,” she wrote.

She also expressed appreciation to senior journalists who intervened after the incident became public.

“My gratitude to all our senior colleagues who made calls regarding the situation. Thanks so much.”

According to her, the apology was delivered by David Otobo, media consultant for The Delborough.

The controversy began after some journalists were denied entry to the event for not wearing branded T-shirts provided by the organisers, a requirement that sparked backlash from members of the media who described it as disrespectful and unprofessional.
