Eighteen-year-old Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has stunned the athletics world after delivering a record-breaking performance that has already drawn comparisons to sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Competing in Sydney, the teenager stormed to victory in the 200m, clocking an incredible 19.67 seconds to win the national title and set a new world U20 record.
The time not only marks his first legal sub-20-second run but also stands as the fastest 200m time recorded globally this year.
Gout’s latest feat has now surpassed Bolt’s 19.93 seconds recorded in 2004, a time the Jamaican icon ran at age 17 before going on to dominate world sprinting.
The young athlete had already been on the radar since 2024, when he ran 20.06 seconds, setting a national record and becoming the fastest 16-year-old ever over the distance.
While American sprinter Erriyon Knighton previously ran a faster under-20 time of 19.49 seconds, it was not ratified as a world U20 record. His official mark of 19.69 has now been overtaken by Gout’s historic run.
With this performance, Gout Gout has firmly announced himself as one of the brightest young talents in global athletics, with many already tipping him for greatness on the world stage.
