“From Prostitution to Stability” — DJ Kulet Opens Up on Past, Credits Faith for Life Turnaround

DJ Kulet Opens Up on Past,

Nigerian disc jockey DJ Kulet has sparked widespread conversation after sharing a deeply personal testimony about her past and the journey that led to her transformation.

Speaking during a church service, the DJ, whose real name is Kudirat Gbemisola, opened up about a period of her life marked by hardship, survival struggles, and difficult choices.

Her story, which she later expanded on on Instagram, traces a path from instability on the streets of Lagos to financial independence and homeownership.

According to her account, she once lived in Surulere, particularly around the Lawanson area, where her lifestyle at the time made her widely known. She described experiencing homelessness and navigating life without a stable support system, a phase she says defined some of her toughest years.

In her words, the journey was one of gradual change rather than instant success.

She recounted moving from sleeping on the streets into a shared “face me I slap you” apartment arranged by someone who supported her at the time.

That phase later transitioned into a self-contained space, also funded by external support, before she began earning consistently as a DJ.

Even then, stability did not come easily.

DJ Kulet revealed that she once spent about 2 years living in a building without a toilet, relying on external facilities because the landlord’s construction was incomplete. The experience, she said, was both frustrating and humbling, highlighting how far she still had to go despite signs of progress.

Over time, her career began to take shape, allowing her to afford better living conditions. She eventually moved into a four-bedroom, en-suite apartment, a milestone she attributes to her growth in the entertainment space.

The most significant turning point, however, came in April 2024, when she says she was able to purchase a house in Surulere outright, covering all associated costs without relying on her past lifestyle. For her, the achievement represents more than financial success; it symbolises a complete shift in direction.

Framing her story as “from a mess to a message,” she credited her transformation to faith, describing it as the foundation that reshaped her decisions and outlook on life.

Her testimony adds to a growing pattern of public figures sharing personal stories of struggle and redemption in religious settings, often connecting their journeys to spiritual awakening and career breakthroughs. These narratives resonate widely, especially among audiences drawn to themes of resilience and second chances.

Reactions to her story have been mixed but largely engaged. While many have praised her openness and the progress she has made, others have focused on the broader conversation about survival, personal accountability, and the realities young people face as they navigate life in major cities like Lagos.

Regardless of perspective, DJ Kulet’s account stands as a candid reflection of a life that has undergone significant change. From instability to ownership, her story captures both the challenges and possibilities that can shape an individual’s path over time.
