FG Declares April 3 and 6 Public Holidays for Easter Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Easter celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who confirmed that April 3 will be observed as Good Friday, while April 6 will be Easter Monday.

In his message, the minister congratulated Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora, urging them to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season.

“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ,” he said.

Tunji Ojo also stressed the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that Easter serves as a reminder of shared values that bind the nation together.

“Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation. Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country,” he added.

He further reiterated the government’s commitment to policies aimed at national development, emphasizing efforts toward economic growth and shared prosperity for all citizens.
