Early Life and Education

Kiki Mordi (born August 12, 1991, 34 years old) is from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Her father and mother, Mr and Mrs Mordi, brought her up in a family setting that cherished education and hard work. After completing her primary and secondary schooling in Port Harcourt, she pursued higher education.

At the time of her university education, a lecturer sexually harassed her, and this sort of humiliation caused her to leave the school. This personal misfortune made her turn to investigative journalism. Later, she got a media job as a student broadcaster on Rhythm FM in Benin City. Her ethnic group is Igbo, and she follows Christianity.

Professional Life

In 2013, Kiki Mordi commenced her expert career as a radio presenter at Rhythm FM in Benin City. She transitioned into investigative journalism, and in 2019, she was recognised worldwide as the chief journalist and undercover performer in the BBC Africa Eye documentary Sex for Grades.

The documentary uncovered sexual harassment and “sex-for-marks” scandals in universities in Nigeria and Ghana. It was based on hidden camera footage, which showed university lecturers who were asking students for sexual favours.

After the release of this documentary, there was widespread outrage, and several policies were discussed, with reforms demanded across West Africa.

To fight the erasure of women’s stories and increase women’s media presence, she has launched the #DocumentWomen movement. Apart from being a writer and an entrepreneur, she is constantly producing powerful content, assisting victims of harassment, and training young journalists.

Her focus is always on the power of truth-telling in African societies, gender justice, and accountability. She is still very much involved with the media, creating documentaries and participating in public discussions on institutional reform and women’s rights.
