“Since That Day I Never Touched Alcohol Again” — Osinbajo Reveals Moment That Changed His Life Forever

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has opened up about a deeply personal moment that changed his lifestyle and spiritual walk, revealing how an unexpected encounter during a United Nations mission in Somalia led him to completely give up alcohol.

The former vice president’s revelation has sparked widespread online reactions, not only because of its personal nature but also because the turning point was unexpectedly simple.

Speaking in a video now circulating on social media, Osinbajo recounted how a casual decision to buy beer after preaching one Sunday became a defining moment in his faith journey.

And according to him, he has not taken alcohol since.

“Since that day, I have never consumed alcohol,” he said.

The story surprised many because Osinbajo, who has long been known publicly as a pastor and legal scholar, admitted that, even while serving in ministry, he occasionally enjoyed red wine and beer.

“I like my red wine once in a while, and then I like my beer,” he said in the now widely shared clip.

But what happened during his time with the United Nations mission in Mogadishu, Somalia, changed that.

According to Osinbajo, he had just finished preaching at a fellowship service one Sunday when he stopped at a restaurant inside the UN compound intending to buy two cans of Heineken before returning to his room to read his Bible.

What happened next made him pause.

As he entered the restaurant, he noticed colleagues from different countries drinking together. But almost immediately, they began trying to hide their drinks when they saw him walk in.

The reaction puzzled him.

So he asked a Danish colleague why everyone seemed uncomfortable.

The response stayed with him.

“You are the priest, and we cannot be drinking around the priest.”

Osinbajo said those words struck him deeply.

What seemed like a casual remark triggered intense reflection about the example he was setting and the weight others attached to his faith identity, even in spaces where he may not have fully considered it.

He said that moment helped him better understand the biblical principle that while certain things may be permissible, not everything is beneficial.

And from that day, he said, he made a personal decision to stop drinking entirely.

The story has resonated because it was not framed as a dramatic miracle or public conversion moment, but as a quiet lesson born from self reflection.

That has made it even more powerful for many listeners.

For supporters, the testimony offers a rare personal glimpse into Osinbajo beyond politics, showing the private convictions that have shaped his public persona.

It also adds to the growing appeal of faith-centered personal stories from prominent public figures, especially those that feel relatable and unforced.

What began as a simple trip to buy beer became, in Osinbajo’s telling, a moment of conviction he never forgot.

And years later, that brief exchange in Mogadishu is still shaping how he lives.

Sometimes, life-changing moments do not come through grand events. Sometimes, they come through one sentence you were not expecting to hear.
