“That One Still Pains Me” — Ruger Opens Up About Missing Funke Akindele’s Movie Offer

Ruger Biography, Age, Songs, Record Label, Girlfriend, Net Worth

Afrobeats star Ruger has revealed one career opportunity he still regrets missing, and it involves Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele.

Speaking during an interview with media personality VJ Adams, the singer shared how a missed direct message cost him a potential movie role in one of Funke Akindele’s productions, a moment he says still bothers him.

For an artist known for confidence and swagger, the admission came as a surprisingly candid moment.

According to Ruger, he had always noticed Funke’s support for his music and even intended to send her a message to thank her. But while checking his messages, he discovered something unexpected. The filmmaker had previously reached out privately to ask whether he would be interested in appearing in a film.

By the time he saw it, the opportunity had passed.

“That one still pains me,” he admitted.

The revelation immediately sparked reactions, especially among fans intrigued by the possibility of seeing the singer on screen.

What makes the story even more interesting is that Ruger did not rule out acting entirely.

In fact, he said he has a genuine interest in exploring film, even though he believes acting could challenge him, particularly because he is not naturally drawn to the demands of shooting.

Still, he suggested the right character could change everything.

“If my character is interesting, yeah,” he said, hinting that Nollywood may not be out of reach just yet.

The missed opportunity also opens up a fascinating what-if.

Funke Akindele has built a reputation for spotting unexpected talent and blending fresh faces into her projects. Given Ruger’s charisma, many fans believe he could have brought something unique to the screen.

Some are hoping the public revelation leads to a second chance.

Beyond the acting conversation, the moment also reveals a different side of Ruger, one less about chart success and more about ambitions beyond music.

Since breaking through in 2021 under Jonzing World, Ruger has built a distinct identity in Afrobeats, powered by hits like Dior, Girlfriend and Asiwaju. His fusion of Afrobeats and dancehall has helped him build a loyal audience in Nigeria and beyond.

Now that talk of acting is on the table, fans are seeing another possible lane for the singer.

And while the missed role for Funke Akindele may still sting, it may also have planted a seed.

Because if there is one thing this revelation has done, it has made people curious about what Ruger in Nollywood looks like.
