Celebrity businessman and nightlife figure Cubana Chief Priest has reportedly suffered a major political setback after losing the All Progressives Congress ticket for the House of Representatives seat representing Orsu, Orlu, and Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State.
The socialite, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, was defeated during the APC primary election by incumbent lawmaker Canice Moore Nwachukwu, who successfully retained the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development has already triggered strong reactions online, especially because Cubana Chief Priest’s political ambition has become one of the most talked-about celebrity political moves in recent months.
The nightlife entrepreneur had publicly declared his intention to fully transition into politics under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, presenting himself as a youth-driven candidate focused on grassroots development and empowerment.
His entrance into the race immediately attracted attention across the South East because of his huge popularity on social media and strong connections within Nigeria’s entertainment and business circles.
Cubana Chief Priest had also intensified his political activities by involving himself with the South East City Boy Movement, a political support structure linked to President Bola Tinubu.
In recent months, he openly displayed his APC nomination and expression of interest forms while speaking confidently about representing his people at the National Assembly.
According to him at the time, his political interest was motivated by a desire to create opportunities for young people and improve development within the constituency.
Despite the hype surrounding his candidacy, the incumbent lawmaker ultimately secured victory in the party primary, ending Cubana Chief Priest’s immediate hopes of flying the APC flag for the federal constituency seat.
The loss highlights the difficult reality many celebrity figures face when they attempt to convert their popularity and online influence into actual political victories within established party structures.
Still, political observers believe the businessman’s growing involvement in politics may not end here, especially considering his increasing visibility within APC circles and his influence among younger supporters in the South East.
For now, however, the outcome is a major disappointment for supporters who had hoped to see one of Nigeria’s most recognizable nightlife personalities make the leap from entertainment fame to elected office.
As reactions continue pouring in online, many are already debating whether Cubana Chief Priest will regroup politically ahead of future elections or quietly step back from frontline politics after the unexpected defeat.
