“Not Too Young to Run” — Dami Marshal Picks Lagos Assembly Form, Targets Surulere Seat

A new name has officially entered the Lagos political race: Dami Marshal, the daughter of Fuji icon K1 de Ultimate, is taking a bold step toward elective office, with her eyes set on the Surulere Constituency II seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Damilola Ayinde Marshal confirmed her candidacy after picking up her nomination form, sharing the moment on Instagram with the message “Youth Lokan. Not too young to run.”

The phrase, which has become synonymous with youth participation in governance, signals the tone of her campaign and the audience she hopes to mobilize.

Her entry into the race comes months after she first announced her intention to run, positioning her as a candidate focused on representation, justice, and community-driven leadership.

With over a decade of legal practice, she says her experience has given her a grounded understanding of governance and the needs of everyday people.

Dami is seeking to represent Surulere Constituency II, a politically active district in Lagos where grassroots influence often plays a decisive role.

Early indications suggest she is already gaining traction, with reports of endorsements from market women and members of the Arewa community, two key blocs that can shape voter sentiment at the local level.

Her campaign messaging centers on youth inclusion and practical leadership. She has described herself as results-driven and committed to amplifying the voices of younger Nigerians within the legislative space. That positioning aligns with a broader shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, where younger candidates are increasingly stepping forward to challenge established figures.

If successful, she would replace Mosunmola Sangodara, who currently represents the constituency under the All Progressives Congress. The contest is expected to attract attention as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the next election cycle.

Beyond her political ambition, Dami’s background adds another layer to her candidacy. She is the daughter of Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, one of Nigeria’s most influential Fuji musicians, a connection that brings both visibility and expectations. However, her campaign narrative appears focused on her professional credentials rather than her family name.

She holds a law degree from North America University in Cotonou and was called to the Nigerian Bar in December 2015. She later earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lagos in 2022, strengthening her academic and professional profile.

Her message to voters has been consistent. She is seeking support based on competence, readiness, and a vision for progress in Surulere.

With slogans like “Youth Lokan” and “Igbega Eko, Ajumose wa ni,” she is tapping into both generational energy and local identity.

As the race unfolds, her candidacy represents a familiar yet evolving narrative in Nigerian politics, where youth, professional experience, and grassroots engagement are increasingly intersecting.

For now, the forms have been picked, the message is clear, and the campaign is underway. The real test will come at the ballot, where ambition meets voter trust.
