Afrobeats superstar Davido is setting his sights beyond music, announcing plans to return to school for a Master’s degree in Political Science in the United Kingdom.
The award-winning artist made the revelation during a recent livestream, where he spoke candidly about his intention to further his education. According to him, the decision is already in motion and will begin next year.
“I want to do my Master’s next year,” he said, confirming that the program will be a one-year postgraduate course, in line with the standard academic structure in the UK.
Davido also addressed speculation about where he would study. Some had assumed he might choose Adeleke University, an institution linked to his family, but he clarified that his plans lie abroad.
“No, in UK, a one year course in Political science. I have my BSc already,” he added.
The announcement adds a new dimension to Davido’s public profile, one that blends entertainment with intellectual and potentially political ambition.
While he has long been visible in Nigeria’s political space through his support for his uncle, Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke, this move suggests a more structured interest in governance and policy.
Pursuing a degree in Political Science is particularly significant given his increasing involvement in political campaigns and youth mobilization efforts.
It signals an attempt to pair practical experience with academic grounding, a combination that could shape his influence beyond music.
The decision has been widely welcomed by fans, many of whom see it as a sign of growth and long-term vision. In an industry where global success often takes full attention, choosing to return to formal education reflects a different kind of ambition, one that extends beyond entertainment.
It also highlights a broader trend among high-profile figures who are using education to expand their impact and credibility in other fields. For Davido, whose reach already spans music, business, and public engagement, the move could open new pathways.
At the same time, the announcement raises questions about how he will balance academic life with an active music career. Known for his consistent releases, performances, and international presence, he will need to shift his schedule and priorities to take on a postgraduate program.
Still, the one-year duration of UK Master’s programs makes the transition more manageable, allowing him to pursue the degree without stepping away from music for an extended period.
Beyond logistics, the symbolic value of the decision stands out. It reinforces the idea that career evolution need not be linear and that even at the peak of success, there is room for learning and reinvention.
As preparations begin for the next academic year, Davido’s move is likely to remain a talking point not just for what it represents personally, but for what it could signal about his future direction.
For now, the message is clear: the Afrobeats star is ready to add another title to his name, this time, in the classroom.
