Nigerian music executive and producer Don Jazzy has revealed that allowing former Mavin Records artiste Di’ja to leave the label was one of the most emotionally difficult moments of his career.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, the Mavin boss reflected on the challenges of handling artist exits and how deeply attached he becomes to the musicians signed under his label.
According to him, the experience with Di’ja affected him personally because he viewed artists at Mavin Records as family.
“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go,” he said.
“That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself.”
Don Jazzy explained that he now leaves such responsibilities to label executives Tega and Rima whenever issues involving departures arise.
He also described the emotional atmosphere surrounding Di’ja’s exit, revealing that everyone involved became emotional during the discussion.
“Everybody on my record label is like my child,” he stated.
“She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard.”
Di’ja officially joined Mavin Records on Valentine’s Day in 2014 and quickly became one of the label’s prominent female artists.
During her time with the label, she released several songs and projects, including hits that contributed to Mavin’s growing dominance in the Nigerian music industry between 2014 and 2017.
In 2023, Di’ja clarified public speculation surrounding her status with the label, explaining that she had not formally exited Mavin Records but that “life happened.”
Don Jazzy’s comments have since sparked reactions online, with many fans praising the strong emotional bond he appears to maintain with artists under his management.
The producer has long been known for presenting Mavin Records as more than just a business operation, often describing the label as a family-oriented structure focused on artist growth and long-term relationships.
